Hot mulled wine, served warm and potent for cold winter nights.
Mix 1 bottle of wine and all the spices except the almonds and raisins in a crockpot or large pan with a lid on. Warm very gently on low heat until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and allow to set on the counter for 4 hours to steep. When ready to serve, add the remaining wine and Aquavit and warm gently to 120 degrees F - do not simmer, or the alcohol will cook off. Serve warm, in small cups with raisins and almonds on the side for guests to add to their drinks. A crockpot on the counter is perfect.
